This position is a full time caseworker responsible for working with families and children grades kindergarten to 11th where
truancy has been identified. Caseworker will be expected to attend school meetings to participate in a SAIP (student
attendance improvement plan) as well as conduct in home assessments to identify needs and strategies. Developing service
plans and providing testimony in Magistrate hearings and Truancy Court is required.
Adheres to established regulations, policies and procedures of the overall agency and their specific component.
Attends seminars, conferences, and training to enhance skills and job performance as directed by supervisor.
Interprets agency programs, policies, and/or procedures to individuals, groups and agencies as assigned by the
Works in close cooperation with schools, other social agencies, Courts, and community resources in planning to
meet the needs of clients and assists clients in utilizing their resources.
Prepares dictation and record keeping and case consultants as required by specific agency department
programs on a timely basis as directed by supervisors.
Works closely and collaboratively with school districts to establish a mechanism for identifying and referring
children/adolescents who are experiencing truancy related problems.
Complete comprehensive, in home family assessments to determine child/family’s strengths and needs.
Develop an agreed upon service plan based on the findings of the assessment. Make referrals on behalf of the
child/family, as needed and appropriate.
Participate and assist in the development of the Student Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP), as directed by
the child’s school district.
Work closely with the Magisterial Court/CYS/JPO/Truancy Court and schools to establish and facilitate the
referral and feedback process. Providing testimony regarding services is required.
Gather statistical data regarding number of truant students, magistrate filings, truancy court referrals,
dependency action, as directed by Luzerne County Children and Youth Services.

This position will report to the PASS Supervisor for supervision, direction, monitoring and evaluation of job
performance for this classification. In addition, clinical supervision will be provided by the Clinical Supervisor of
Catholic Social Services.

This position requires:
A Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field and one year of experience in a social service field.
A valid PA driver's license and insurance
Child Line, PA State Police, and FBI background checks done by employer prior to beginning employment
VIRTUS training (employer provided) is also required.
